NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF CUBA

Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera, Pianist

Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2 p.m.

After touring internationally since their founding in 1960, the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba embarks on their first historic US tour. The orchestra, also known as the Havana Symphony, is active in developing and introducing Cuban and Latin American music to the international community. Their symphonic and chamber repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music. More than 100 guest conductors have led the orchestra, including Sir Thomas Beecham, Sergiu Celibidache, Igor Stravinsky, and Heitor Villa-Lobos. A number of acclaimed international soloists—Marian Anderson, Jose Carreras, Jascha Heifetz, and Arthur Rubinstein—have performed with the orchestra. Performing with the orchestra will be piano soloist Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera. Widely recognized as a young genius, Herrera amazed Cuban audiences when he performed Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2 with the orchestra at the age of 12.

Tickets are $30 Regular, $28 Seniors and Students
