Group Brainstorm Options

This working document has been drafted by the Rockville Campus Expansion Task Force and is for discussion purposes only.  It does not represent any final recommendations of the Task Force or endorsement by Montgomery College administration and/or its Board of Trustees.

 

Group A

1.       Take over the old library in Rockville

2.       Rock Terrace H.S. and Board of Ed buildings

3.       Buy Jackson South & North - $43 million

4.       Lease or buy nearby office space

5.       Buy College Plaza shopping center

6.       Construct a raised building over the duck pond

7.       Use athletic facilities in Rockville for buildings and transfer athletics to Germantown

8.       Pave over Columbia Gas Co. on east side of 355 for parking

9.       Provide a free shuttle from the Rockville Metro to encourage more use of public transportation

10.   More emphasis on on-line studies

11.   Borrow space at Shady Grove campus, Germantown, Takoma Park

12.   Start and endowment fund

13.   Build up the code and build down sublevels

14.   Increase county taxes since county greatly benefits

 

Group B

1.       Hire professional commercial broker to locate available buildings at Rockville

2.       WINX property – 7 -10 acres

3.       Relocate central admin out of Mannakee building for classes

4.       Re-distribute course offerings from Rockville to other campuses

5.       Lease MCPS schools for evening classes

6.       Old Giant property on N. Washington Street

7.       Re-develop Rockville Metro site

8.       Lease portable classrooms

9.       MCPS property on Stone street

10.   Buy back Jackson Place

 

Group C

1.       Lease or buy commercial town homes on 355 between the College’s two 355 entrances

2.       Relocate Parking Garage #2 to a location along Mannakee St (for neighborhood harmony)

3.       Use shuttle bus services from remote parking locations.

4.       Create a system for assessing and sharing available space at MC, University of Maryland at Shady Grove, Johns Hopkins, etc.

5.       Build underground parking facility beneath existing athletic field or building

6.       Purchase Plymouth Woods

 


Group D

1.       Acquisitions of income-producing property adjacent to campus

2.       Celera site – W.Gude & 355

3.       Gude Park corner property

4.       MCPS property on Stone St.

5.       Long term search for parcels

6.       Derwood Industrial Park

7.       Expand parking off campus and build on current lots

8.       Belward Farm

 

Group E

1.       Carver Site

2.       College Plaza

3.       Shuttle Service

a.       Expand parking to E. Gude Drive

b.       Create shuttle to Rockville Library

4.       Acquire Jackson Place North and South

a.       Create access route to campus

5.       Move parking garage to wooded area

6.       Create community rooms adjacent to community buildings

7.       Celera site (W.Gude & 355)

8.       E. Gude drive building options

9.       Build college facilities within Center of Rockville (near Circuit Courthouse)

10.   Use current central administration building for campus expansion

11.   Place recreation place on top of parking garages
