Learn about Financial Aid, Scholarships, Local Colleges at Free Event
Montgomery College will host the fourth annual College Scholarship Conference on Saturday, October 17 from 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Intended for high school juniors and seniors, their parents and Montgomery College students, this free event will provide information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities for college-bound and currently enrolled college students. It will be held at Montgomery College's Germantown Campus in the High Technology and Science Center, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, Md.
The highlight of the conference will be the keynote address, "The Scholarship Workshop," by Marianne Ragins. She will give advice on writing resumes and essays for college scholarship applications. She will also talk about how to find scholarship organizations and use the Internet in your search. Ragins is the author of "Winning Scholarships for College: An Insider's Guide," which provides scholarship information and shares Ragins' experience with earning more than $400,000 in scholarships. Using scholarships and other free aid, she paid for her bachelor's degree from Florida A & M University and her M.B.A. from George Washington University. Ragins owns The Scholarship Workshop, LLC, an educational consulting service.
The conference will also feature a panel discussion with area graduates who earned scholarships to help pay for their education. They will share their insights on the scholarship process, especially for community college transfer students, and common “do's and don'ts.”
In addition, representatives from Montgomery College and other area colleges and universities have been invited to attend and provide information about the scholarship search process and specific information regarding their financial aid programs.
Support for the conference is provided by Montgomery College, Butler’s Orchard, The Gazette and Mayorga Coffee. The conference and parking are free. Light refreshments will be provided.
