The School of Art + Design (SA+D) is a unique program at Montgomery College, offering a portfolio-intensive "art school" experience for college students majoring in studio art or graphic design and noncredit students seeking new or improved skills in fine and digital arts.
Our nationally renowned degree program is designed for art majors who seek a highly specialized, structured course of study that prepares them to transfer to top art colleges throughout the nation. Classes are rigorous, always focused on producing portfolio-quality artwork. Students graduate with an Associate of Fine Arts degree (AFA) and most earn considerable scholarships to complete their BFA studies at premier art colleges.
While our degree program is rigorous, our focus is ALWAYS on each individual student. Every SA+D student is assigned a faculty mentor in our Core Academic Review Experience, or CARE program, to work with you from orientation through graduation. This approach ensures individual attention and guidance both in and out of the classroom. We believe the CORE of our program is more than just a great curriculum and instruction – it’s the entire experience, from getting to know you during the application process through graduation and transfer. By knowing you as an individual, we’re better able to help bring out the best in you as an artist!
We have highly respected noncredit programs in Workforce Development & Continuing Education for aspiring and professional artists, with courses for high school students and adults in an art school setting that provides a supportive community for artists at all levels. From our innovative Pre-college Portfolio Institute to our Fine Arts and Design courses for adults, there is something for every interest and every level in our noncredit programs.
