NON-CREDIT ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS

Program Overview

The School of Art + Design (SA+D) offers student-focused noncredit classes for ages 6 and older in an art school setting that provides a supportive community for artists at all levels. The interaction between credit and noncredit students as well as between older and younger students is one aspect that makes the school a unique learning environment.  Experienced art teachers and working artists teach classes that focus on the process of learning about art, as well as skill development using a broad range of media and techniques. Small class sizes enable effective teaching and interaction with the students.

In the fall of 2007 SA+D celebrates its 50th anniversary and moves to the new Cafritz Foundation Art Center on the MC Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. Thank you to all of the students who have been part of the dynamic community of artists at the school in several locations in the last 50 years. For more information regarding the classes or to be placed on the program’s mailing list please call Yvette Walters at 240-567-5801 or email her at yvette.walters@montgomerycollege.edu.

Summer Art Program Student Service Learning Volunteer Opportunity Make this the same size as the other headings

The School of Art + Design is a certified Student Service Learning Host Agency. Each summer a limited number of students ages 14 and over are selected to assist teachers during the Summer Art Program. Volunteers help teachers of younger students to prepare for class, explain projects, help individual students with their art projects, and act as an assistant to the teacher during class. Volunteers are important members of the summer program and with accrued hours going toward their Maryland graduation requirements. For the selected volunteers it is a wonderful opportunity to help younger students learn and to be involved in the arts.

Preference is given to successful former volunteers and to those who have taken classes in the summer program. Information and applications are available to interested students in March of each year. To request a summer program volunteer application, contact Yvette Walters at 240-567-5801 or email her at yvette.walters@montgomerycollege.edu. Applicants will be called for interviews prior to the start of the summer program.
