Reading Room - HU 002
Are you a Montgomery College student taking a Reading course? If so, you may be required to complete lab hours. In many cases you can complete your Reading course lab hours in the HU 002 Reading Room. (To complete Reading course lab hours you may also use the MT 020 Grammar and Reading Lab.)
In the HU 002 Reading Room, you can use books, tapes and videos to practice English reading skills such as listening, reading comprehension (a better understanding what you read), and vocabulary. You can practice identifying main ideas and supporting details, writing summaries, or using the reading strategies you are learning (such as using “context” clues and antonyms).
Your professor may ask you to practice using particular materials, or may recommend that you choose your Reading Room materials on your own.
In the Reading Room you will find materials to help you with most Reading courses, including RD 101, RD 102, RD 103, and RD 099, and RD 120. The number of hours you spend in the Reading Room will be recorded on the computer, and later will be reported to your professor.
How to Sign in at the Reading Room:
- Take out your Montgomery College student ID card.
- Stop at the front desk in HU 002 to present your ID to a staff person.
- Say which Reading course you are taking and what materials you need.
- Get your materials from a staff person, and start working at a desk or machine.
- When you leave, check out at the front desk, and return any materials you have borrowed.
For more information, you may also ask your professor, or any tutor or staff member for assistance.
