Cultural Arts
Center
A new Cultural Arts Center will directly support the newly created Silver Spring Arts and Education District. It will establish the College as a center for the performing arts in the area and fill a longstanding void in the community. County and metro area arts patrons will be able to attend unique professional public performances as well as arts events sponsored by community organizations. Two performance spaces will serve both the College and the community. The 500-seat music and dance theatre with a state of the art stage and acoustics will be available for use by local organizations. The 100-seat thrust stage theatre will be used by the Communications and Performing Arts Department for performances and classroom space for speech, theatre, film, and dance classes as well as by regional theatre groups or community organizations. The building will also house classrooms for music and dance theory instructions and offices for Campus Safety and Security and Physical Education. The auditorium will provide the College and community with a large gathering place for student assemblies, performances and lectures. The meeting room and exhibit space will provide the College and community with a place to hold public meetings and exhibit student and professional art.
