PROGRAM SCHEDULE

ACET Teaching Institute, Schedule of Classes

The ACET Institute is composed of 8 modules of instruction. Classes will meet two evenings per week and three Saturdays over the 10 week period.

Evening classes meet Tuesday and Thursday with two short breaks and Saturday’s seminar are full days usually 9-4.

Classes will utilize distance learning components, via blended instruction, enabling participants to benefit from this structure. Upon completion of the Institute classes, there will be a one-week break before the Internship begins.

Candidates must complete Methods of Teaching Reading I course (either as RD 238 at Montgomery College or as a professional development course in MCPS) either before beginning the program or during the Teaching Institute.

Internship

Candidates will do their internship following the MCPS school schedule, five days / week for four to six weeks. All elements of the ACET program are mandatory, as they must follow MSDE requirements for approved resident teacher certification programs

Residency

After successful completion of the internship, candidates will interview for vacant positions in MCPS and be placed as regular classroom teachers for the next fall. See current MCPS Salary Scale.

Residents must also successfully complete the Praxis II Pedagogy exam and Part II of the Methods of Teaching Reading course (either as RD239 at MC or as a professional development course in MCPS). At the end of a satisfactory resident year, candidates will be awarded the Standard Professional Certificate I.
