Montgomery College Driver Education includes programs for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. New: Learners Permit Prep Classes, designed for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Also some Driver Education classes are co-taught by an instructor with dual certification in MVA Driver Education and Special Education by MSDE. Need more Behind the Wheel practice? Obtained Learners Permit (Maryland State prerequisite)The Learners Permit Preparation Course is a 10 hour course designed by a Special Education teacher. This course is designed to help prepare students to pass the Maryland MVA learners permit test. Learners Permit Flyer.

New Course: Driver Education (Learning Disabled) SFT047. Is taught by an instructor with dual certification in MVA Driver Education and Special Education by MSDE. This course provides extra instructional support for students with moderate learning disabilities. This course provides differentiated instruction, supplemental aides and service, multi-sensory approach to learning, and an increased appreciation for diversity. Additional documentation pertaining to the student's learning disability is required to ensure the student's suitability for the class, call Maria Castro-Trujillo, Program Assistant, 240-567-1895 for more information.
What should I do if I have a disability? If you need support services due to a disability, please follow these steps:
1. Register for a class.
2. Call 240-567-5188 or e-mail us at wdce@montgomerycollege.edu at least four weeks prior to the start of class to arrange for accommodations and/or assistive technology.
If this procedure is not followed, services may be delayed.
Be advised that while Driver Education schools are accomplished at making judgement and sharing insight on driver skills, none are authorized to make determination or prognosis on wheter a rookie driver can or cannot drive on Maryland roads. The responsibility lies with the parent/guardian and the state of Maryland on wheter this student should share Maryland roads. Participation in our Developmental Driver Education program is open to all students. However, students with conditions identified by COMAR 11.17.03.02-1 "Reportable Medical Conditions", (Autism is on this list), must be reported to the MVA and Medical Advisory Board as instructed. Any Restricted Learner Permits or Driver Licenses will be evaluated by us to ensure we can teach under those conditions identified by the MVA/Medical Advisory Board (MAB) .
Driver Improvement Lessons provide additional in car/behind the wheel driving practice with dually certified MVA and Special Education teachers. Our certified driving instructors are available to help young drivers gain more experience behind the wheel, improve their driving skills, and reduce their risk on the road. You must have a Learners Permit or a Drivers License to be able to enroll in Driver Improvement Lessons. Lessons are available in increments of 2, 4, 6 hours or more.
