Transportation Safety Institute at Montgomery College offers noncredit training and education to increase motorist safety for the benefit of county residents, employees, and employers. We deliver a full range of approved safety courses, most of which lead to certification or licensing. Courses include Maryland Basic Boating, Driver Education, Motorcycle Safety and coming soon Commercial Truck Driver (CDL).
Boating Safety: The Maryland Basic Boating Certification Course is designed to fulfill Maryland's requirement that anyone born after July 1, 1972, operating a motorized watercraft must be in possession of a Certificate of Boating Safety Education. Upon successful completion of this course students are granted the certificate which is valid for life.
Driver Education: The Driver Education course is approved by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. This course consists of 30 total classroom hours, plus breaks, and 6 hours of supervised behind the wheel driving experience. Upon successful completion of this course students are awarded a Certificate which students need to earn before they are allowed to take the Driver License test at the MVA.
Motorcycle Safety: Montgomery College's Motorcycle Safety Program is administered by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). The Basic Rider Course (BRC) is designed for beginning riders, classes for more experienced riders are also offered. Special, in person, registrations for these very popular courses are held several times a year.
Truck Driver (CDL) Commercial Drivers License. Montgomery College has teamed up with All-State Career to offer Commercial Driver Licensing training. Classroom and behind-the-wheel driving instruction will prepare you for a CDL Class A or Class B with passenger endorsement certification.
