Program Operating Procedures
The mission of Montgomery College's CDL Training Program is is to provide high quality, convenient and comprehensive driver education courses. The most important aspect of driver education is safety. It is the goal of our programs to have graduates with the safest driving records of any other competitor and to use that reputation to create more training and employment opportunities for our community.
The Montgomery College courses are desinged to prepare students for the State of Maryland Class A or Class B CDL truck written and skills tests. The programs are licensed and certified by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Adminsitration, as are all instructors.
Enrollment Process
- Begins with a pre-registration interview/meeting with the Program Manager to fully explain program expectations and the enrollment process.

- Big 3 Registration Requirements:
1st-DOT Physical and Drug screening ($150 non-refundable fee),
2nd- CDL Learner’s Permit ($90, payable separately to the MVA), visit the MVA for more information.
3rd- Full Tuition.
- Scheduled courses are contingent upon enrollment minimums-ensure your eligibility with requirements and register early!
Key Student Expectations
- At the end of each class, you will review your performance with your Instructor, via a “Tri-fold”. We encourage you to take advantage of this daily feedback process.
- Cost of MVA CDL test is included in the cost of the program. You will be responsible for transportation to and from the testing site in Baltimore at the end of the course, 2200 Broening Highway, Suite 160, Baltimore, MD 21224.
- CDL Class A Truck Driver Training classes are divided into three components or modules. The classroom portion consists of 50 hours of classroom instruction, there are 70 hours of practice driving a truck on the range, and 40 hours of practice driving a truck on the road.
Payment & Refund Policy
- Payment in full is required before registering. Payments are accepted in the form of check, credit card, money order or documentation from approved funding agency. CDL-Class A; Cost $3,905.00* ($3,755.00 tuition plus $150.00 non-refundable DOT Physical and Drug Screen).
CDL Class B; Cost $2,400.00* ($2,250.00 tuition plus $150 Non-Refundable DOT Physical and Drug Screen). *An additional $90.00 is paid to the MVA for the CDL Learner's permit.
- If you were approved for a loan from an outside agency, most Continuing Education Loans are sent directly to the student upon approval. Therefore it is the student’s responsibility to apply and pay for the program with the loaned funds directly via check, money order or credit card. Contact the Program Manager, at 240-567-4118 should you need general information on applying for a loan.
- The college’s refund policy applies: “One-hundred percent refund of tuition and fees are granted if a course is administratively cancelled or if a student notifies the College of his/her withdrawal of registration, in writing, by the day prior to the official refund deadline date. The refund deadline date is equivalent to 6% of the number of times a course meets. The refund date is listed on the student's registration confirmation. Students must notify the College of their withdrawal in writing by the day prior to the course refund deadline date…”.
Job Placement
- Job Placement assistance is a free service of Allstate Career provided at the end of your course. We encourage you to fully participate in the process to achieve maximum results.
- Experience is not a requirement for job entry; some companies prefer new drivers and offer job training programs
- Factors that can minimize job opportunities in the class A or B transportation industry: recent, violent or crimes sexual in nature; theft; and/or more than 3 points on your motor vehicle report.
