Department of English Composition, Literature, and Professional Writing present
WILLPOWER!
A weeklong festival of master classes, performances, lectures, and workshops
that celebrate the world of William Shakespeare!!!

Here are a few highlights from this year’s WillPower! festival 
(all events are free and in Rockville's TA Arena, except the playA Midsummer Night's Dream).

♦ Talks by Dr. Jon Lohman, State Folklorist of Virginia (Wednesday at 1:00), Dr. Ken Weiner, Math Emeritus (Monday at 11:00), and Dr. Barbara Hoberman, Biology (Thursday at 11:00). 

♦ A Poetry/Spoken Word workshop, led byProfessors Zachary Benavidez, Genevieve Carminati, and Joanna Howard; English (Thursday at 2:00)

 Five performances of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Professor KenYatta Rogers, Theatre, performed by Montgomery College students (Wednesday 'til Saturday at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday at 2:00 p.m., in the PAC).  For info. re tickets, go to http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/Departments/reppac/ or buy tickets at the door.

Monday, April 12th
♦ 11:00 – 11:50 p.m. –  Lecture:  "4-sooth, Shakespeare Counts!:  Math in the Time of Shakespeare."  (Dr. Ken Weiner, Professor Emeritus, Math) 
**Please note that  the talk itself will last no more than 30 minutes.  So bring an entire class, if you like!

Tuesday, April 13th
9:30 – 10:45 a.m. –  Workshop:  “‘Body Language: Translating Shakespeare’s Language into Movement.”  (Ms. Katherine Long, Former Company Member of Synetic Theatre)  
**Professors ,you are welcome to bring classes that meet during this period.
11:00 – 12:15 p.m. –  Workshop:  “‘The Structure of Shakespeare's Verse.”  (Ms. Becky Kemper, Maryland Shakespeare Festival)

2:00 – 3:15 p.m. –  Workshop:  ““‘Play On!  Bringing Shakespeare’s Poetry to Life” (Ms. Becky Kemper, Maryland Shakespeare Festival)

Wednesday, April 14th
♦ 1:00 - 1:50 p.m. –  Adrian Webber Memorial Lecture:  "'Those pretty wrongs that liberty commits...':  The Transgressive World of Carnival."  (Dr. Jon Lohman, State Folklorist of Virgina )  **Please note that  the talk itself will last no more than 40 minutes.  So bring an entire class, if you like!

8:00 – 10:30 p.m. – Play:  A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Professor KenYatta Rogers (Theatre); performed by MC students.   Parilla Performing Arts Center.  Tickets $10, $8 for students.

Thursday, April 15th
11:00 – 12:15 p.m. –  Lecture:  “The Four Humours:  Medicine in Shakespeare’s Time.”  (Dr. Barbara Hoberman, Biology)
**Please note that  the talk itself will last no more than 40 minutes.  So bring an entire class, if you like!

2:00 – 3:15 p.m. –  Workshop:  "Spoken Word Shakepeare:  Riffing off the Bard" (Professors Zachary Benavidez, Genevieve Carminati and Joanna Howard, English)

8:00 – 10:30 p.m. –  Play:  A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Professor KenYatta Rogers (Theatre); performed by MC students.  Parilla Performing Arts Center.  Tickets $10, $7 for students.

Friday, April 16th
10:00 – 10:50 a.m.  –  Workshop:  Fisticuffs (lessons in Renaissance stage fighting), Session I.  (Mr. Lewis Shaw, Baltimore Shakespeare Festival)
