CH 203       Course Description

Basic concepts of organic chemistry with emphasis on mechanism of reaction. Nomenclature, synthesis, important reactions, uses of organic compounds, such as hydrocarbons and alkyl halides, and interpretation of organic structures using NMR and IR data. Stereochemistry and its applications. Laboratory work includes techniques in the preparation, analysis, and purification of organic compounds. Prerequisites: CH101-102 or consent of department. 3 hours of lecture, 1 hour of discussion, and four hours of laboratory each week.
