COURSE OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this course is to give
you experience with types of writing commonly found in the workplace.
A major focus of the class will be writing more clearly. To
reach this goal, we will employ many of the conventions of strong writing,
among them:
-
having a clear thesis
-
supporting ideas with outside research
-
documenting outside research appropriately
-
approaching writing as a process
-
incorporating sound grammar, mechanics, usage,
and punctuation
-
including effective design elements
-
writing with the audience and purpose foremost
in mind
At the end of the course, you should be able
to produce effective documents such as those we discuss in class.
The documents should be sound in grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and usage,
and contain the characteristics we cover that enhance readability.
The documents should also include effective design elements and, when applicable,
incorporate research that is properly documented.
