I noticed that in the Appendix chart Hinduism does not
appear. Is this because Hinduism can
be on any end of the spectrum because of its many beliefs?

I was unclear on the difference between Confucius' "Tao" and
"Mean." Are they essentially
the same, or is there a difference between the two?

Could you give us a better definition of Hinduism than that
in the book. Due to the
complexities of the religion and the fact that it is interpreted
differently by people, I was not able
to gain a very good understanding of this particular belief.

On the TV series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," there are some
characters that appear
occasionally that are the religious and political leaders of the
planet Bejor. After reading the
section on Hinduism, I find it interesting to note that these
characters' titles are Vedic. I'll be
paying more attention to their beliefs the next time I see them
on the show.

The practice of using satyagraha to eliminate unjust laws
seems to be greatly influenced by
the government that made the unjust laws. The Nazis passed the
Nuremberg laws to make the
holocaust legal (from the Nazi viewpoint). Could satyagraha be
used to overturn such laws as the
Nuremberg laws?

I don't understand why in the Hindu religion class is so
important. Just because people are
in a lower class doesn't mean that they aren't as intelligent as
upper-class people. It seems that
you have no chance or priority if you are lower than others,
until you become reincarnated. What
about your present life? You can't live a nice joyful life; you
must wait for death to come.

In Hinduism, only members of the priestly or brahmin class
are eligible for nirvana. But
Gandhi was a Hindu, and he believed in satyagraha; this truth can
be used by community leaders
and individuals themselves. You can see a difference in their way
of thinking. Who did Gandhi
believe should rule? Hinduism has an effect on the laws in
Gandhi's point of view, correct?

I rented the movie "Gandhi." The movie says that Gandhi is
the sole reason why the British
left India peacefully. How accurate is this fact that Gandhi was
the only reason for a peaceful
independence?

In Hinduism, one must be reincarnated as a brahmin before he
or she may attain
enlightenment. But what's to say that a Hindu person will be
definitely Hindu in his or her next
life? If a Hindu warrior is reincarnated as a Muslim or Jew, then
that warrior has no chance to
attain enlightenment because he is not a Hindu brahmin.
