ATTENDANCE
-Attendance is critical to success in my courses. Students are
expected to attend all classes. If absences exceed two weeks'
worth of classes the instructor may drop the student from the
class.
-One week's absences are allowed without penalty. After that ten
points will be deducted from the student's grade for each
additional week of absences or fraction thereof.
-Students are responsible for notes and missed work. You should make arrangements to get assignments from a classmate in case of a missed class.
TARDINESS
-Given the disruptive nature of tardiness, students should make
every effort to arrive on-time for class. Tardiness is regarded as an absence by the instructor.
Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class.
BEEPERS AND CELL PHONES
-Due to the disruptive nature of these electronic devices they are
expressly forbidden unless you are a member of a heart transplant
team. Cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices must be turned OFF when
in class. If one is found to be on, on vibrate, etc. you will be asked to
leave class and will be counted absent. All cell phones, pagers, etc. are
to be put away - in a purse, backpack, book bag, etc. There is NO
text messaging, web browsing, etc. during class. Failure to adhere to this
rule may result in your being dismissed from class and/or an academic penalty.
-If you are expecting an emergency call our Security Office should be notified and they will have the responsibility for notifying you.
DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR
This class will engage in some open discussion - all students are to address one another, the panelists, and the instructor with respect and courtesy, this includes speaking when recognized by the instructor. Repeatedly leaving and entering the classroom is forbidden.
Any disrespectful or disruptive behavior may result in your being asked to leave the class and may result in your dismissal with a grade of "F" and/or a referral to the Dean of Student Development.
ASSIGNMENTS
-Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the day assigned.
-Point penalties of fifteen points per day (including Saturdays and
Sundays) will be assessed for late assignments.
-Late assignments may be given to the Department secretary in Room
138 of the Humanities Building.
MAKE-UP EXAMS
-A series of chapter examinations is given and the lowest score for
the semester dropped. If you miss an exam it is counted as your
low score and dropped.
-I don't give make-up exams. This policy preserves student privacy
and promotes fairness.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
-Recommendations and letters of reference are the highest honors that I bestow. Students who have earned these honors will be notified at semester's end.
CLASS WITHDRAWALS AND CHANGES FROM CREDIT TO AUDIT
-Carefully note published dates for deadlines.
-Make sure that all paperwork is submitted in a timely manner.
FINAL NOTE
The instructor reserves the right to amend these rules as necessary
throughout the term.
