2. CIRCULATING BOOKS

A. Find Book In Catalog: Go to the library's homepage, find the link for MC Library Catalog, and set "Select Search Type" to "Keyword Boolean." In "Enter Search Terms" put keywords (tend to be nouns), connect them with Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), and use punctuation when appropriate (parenthesis used with OR, quotations marks for phrases):

"day care centers"
(child OR children) AND play
"early childhood" AND education
"child care" AND pre-k

B. Browse Shelves: For books on childhood development and day care centers, go to these sections of the call numbers:

HQ 767.8 -- 792.2 Children. Child Development, including play, socialization
HV 851 -- 861 Day Care Centers

C. Renew Books Online: Go into MC Library Catalog and use the MY ACCOUNT button at the top of the page.

4. DATABASES: COLLECTIONS OF DIGITIZED JOURNAL ARTICLES

SEARCHING: The collections below are enormous databases of citations, abstracts, and often the full text of articles that originally appeared in scholarly journals, magazines, and newspapers. To search for an article, use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), keywords (tend to be nouns), and punctuation (quotation marks for phrases, parentheses for OR). For example:

(child OR children) AND play
(child OR children) AND environment
("child care" OR "day care") AND "child development"
"day care" AND "family life"
gender AND "learning styles"

Full text articles from 5,000+ scholarly publications, indexing and abstracts for 3,500 peer-reviewed publications. Covers all subject areas.

To print, use the yellow Print button at the top of the page.

SORTING: Results can be sorted by date (most recent first) or relevance (highest occurrence of keywords).

PRINTING: Use the Print button in the database, not the Print icon or menu option in the browser.
