MC Library Catalog: Change the search engine setting to "Keyword Boolean" and create a search expression that consists of keywords (tend to be nouns), the Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), and punctuation (parenthesis used with OR, quotations marks for phrases):
- discrimination AND "united states"
- children AND (television OR tv) AND violence
- china AND culture
- "small business"

Here are a few good places to start your search for journal articles:
- SIRS Knowledge Source
- Two choices: (1) Use "Leading Issues" directory, or (2) Select "Keyword/Natural Language" for search expression. Results from either option can be sorted by Lexile Score; look for a rating between 800-1200.
- Opposing Viewpoints
- (1) Use blue Subject Headings on opening page to search by topic, or (2) change to "Keyword Search" and enter search expression in search field.
- Academic Search Premier
- Enter search expression in "Find" field and put checkmark in "Full Text" box. Results can be limited to Magazines or Newspapers from the bar at the top.
- National Newspapers
- Full text of New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor, Baltimore Sun.
- Ethnic Newswatch
- This database specializes in articles from ethnic, minority, and native publications. Likely to offer you a different perspective from that of the mainstream press.
Results can be sorted by date or relevance. To print, use the button within the database. Here are some sample searches using keywords and Boolean operators:
- hurricane AND (dogs OR cats OR pets)
- children AND (television OR tv) AND violence
- "united states" AND "foreign aid"
- france AND riots AND discrimination
