Web Page created by Pat Semple, Montgomery College Libraries

As we discussed in the library instruction session, here are some reminders about how to locate the books, articles, and Web sites you will need for your research. Having trouble? Send me an e-mail at pat.semple@montgomerycollege.edu and I will do my best to reply to you within 24 hours.

1. MC Library Catalog

Finding Books in MC Library Catalog: Change the search engine setting to Keyword Boolean. Create a search expression using keywords (tend to be nouns), the Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), and punctuation (parenthesis used with OR, quotations marks for phrases):

(indian OR "native american") AND (gambling OR gaming OR casinos)
(indian OR "native american") AND culture
(indian OR "native american") AND language

Get Book From Another Campus: Print out the catalog record, staple it to a completed Inter-Campus Loan Form, and turn it in at the Circulation Desk.

Call Number Browse in MC Library Catalog: Change the search engine setting to "Call Number Browse" and, referring to the chart in the next section (green font, below) enter the beginning range of the call number section that you want to scan. For example, to browse the section containing books on "Indians and Government Relations" enter "e91" and click "Search."

Browse the Shelves: Head for the third floor and go to these sections of the call numbers:

E 75-99 Indians of North America
E 81-83 Indian Wars
E 89-90 Indians Portraits and Biographies
E 91-93 Indians and Government Relations, Land Transfers, Courts
E 95 Indian Treaties
E 97 Indian Education
E 98 Indian Aesthetics (fine arts)
E 99 Indian Reservations

Renew Books Online: Go into MC Library Catalog and use the My Account button at the top of the page.
