This assignment is preparation for Class 15, Graphics, on Thursday, June 21, 2001. To complete this assignment, it will be helpful to read Castro, Chapter 4, especially pp. 61-64. Castro Ch. 4 will be discussed in its entirety in Class 15.
1. Scan a picture into digital jpeg format. See Castro, p. 61, and the note at the bottom of the page about 72 dpi image quality. You can use either the scanner available in the computer labs, or a picture taken with a digital camera. This should be your own picture -- not one you obtained off the web.
If you have never used a scanner to save a picture before, please consult the lab assistants, and learn how to scan and save photos.
2. Size the picture to about 3.5 inches by 5 inches. Using Photoshop in the labs, choose Image >Size. Remember to check "Constrain Proportions" in the Image Size Dialog Box. See Castro, Ch. 4, pp. 61-64
3. Save the picture to a floppy A drive or zip disk. Bring the picture to class with you on Thursday, June 21. We will work with the jpeg graphic image in class that day.
4. Link the completed JPEGs that we work on in class on June 21 to your web4students site by 9:00 a.m. June 22.
