Templates

Converting pages to a template:

  • Open page to be used as a template
  • Choose File ~ Save As Template
  • Ensure that the template is being saved in the correct site by
    using the drop-down menu
  • Enter the name of the template
  • Click Yes to update links if prompted
  • Template will now be located in the templates folder in the files
    panel (file will be saved as a .dwt document)

Designating editable regions

  • .Select area that you wish to designate as being editable (will
    not be locked when new pages are created)
  • On the templates drop-down menu, choose Editable Region
  • Name region and click OK


Creating new pages based on template

  • Select File ~ New
  • Select templates tab
  • Select appropriate template
  • Modify contents and save (file will then be saved as an .htm or
    .html document)
  • Note - If the links don't work, try the following:
      • Open the new file in DreamWeaver
      • Select Modify > Template > Apply Template to Page
      • You must have the "Editable Regions" set up correctly to perform this operation.

 

Library - Creating a library item

  • .Select item you wish to add to the library
  • Click the assets tab in the files panel group and click the library
    button
    to open the library
  • Click the new library item icon at the bottom of the panel
  • Name the item
  • Items within the library can be placed on page by using the insert
    button
    or clicking and dragging the item onto page.
  • Hold down Option (Mac) or Ctrl (windows) while dragging object
    from library to page if you want to place the object on the page
    , without it being linked to the object in the library
  • Editing a library object (double-click on the object in the library)
    will change all instances.
