How to Configure Dreamweaver CS3 -

What to do when you get Dreamweaver CS3 out of the box

  1. Toolbars.  Activate all necessary Toolbars:
    1. Main Menu > View > Toolbars
      1. Insert Toolbar
      2. Document Toolbar
      3. Standard Toolbar
  2. Insert Toolbar.  Display the Insert Toolbar in "Tab View", not "Menu" View. 
    1. Point mouse over the Insert tab (or Common tab, depending on what is showing)
    2. Right Click
    3. Select "Show as Tabs." 
    4. You should see the following tabs after the word "Insert"- Common - Layout - Forms -Data - Spry - Text - Favorites
  3. Edit > Preferences.  Set up your preferences for the site:  Main Menu > Edit > Preferences
    1. General Tab - Toggle on (check) "Allow Multiple Consecutive Spaces."
    2. Accessibility - Make sure all four checkboxes at the top are checked -- toggled on. 
      ("Checked" is the appropriate default in DW CS3)
    3. Code Hints - Close tags - Change to "After typing the open tag's ">"
    4. Code Rewriting - Select "Fix Invalidly Closed and Nested Tags."
    5. Select/Check/Activate all of the other checkboxes that become active when you check the "Fix" checkbox above.
  4. Fonts
    1. Proportional Font - No change
    2. Fixed Font - No change
    3. Code View -
      1. Change Font type as desired.
      2. Change Font size to larger font (e.g., 14 points) as desired.
  5. Invisible Elements - Select/Check/Activate all available Invisible Elements.
  6. Preview in Browser - You can add browsers here, such as
    1. Firefox - Recommended
    2. Safari - if available
    3. Text reader for testing accessibility - e.g., JAWS, etc.
  7. Site - Select/Check "Save files before Putting"
  8. Design View on Top - Document Toolbar > View Options - to the right of the "Refresh" icon.
