The 13th Annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Conference will be held on Saturday,
October 25, 2008 at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland.

This year’s conference will culminate with the presentation of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in American Literature to Elmore Leonard, acclaimed novelist and screenwriter.  Mr. Leonard’s extensive body of work includes Get Shorty, Out of Sight, “3:10 to Yuma”, The Bounty Hunters, Bandits, and 10 Rules of Writing, among others.

The day-long conference is a rare opportunity for area writers and lovers of literature to meet and work with some of the best instructors and professionals in the writing world today. This year features panels and all new workshops that offer advice on screen adaptation, nonfiction style, the editor/author relationship and straight talk from publishers.  Workshops on Short Fiction, Memoir, the Novel, and Poetry, will be led by authors new to the F. Scott Fitzgerald Conference, including Nani Power, Susan Muaddi Darraj, Dave Housley, and A.M. Juster.


The F. Scott Fitzgerald Short Story Contest is now open and accepting entries.  The first prize is $1,000 and an invitation to speak briefly about the story at the October conference.  The winning entry will also be printed in the conference brochure, and will appear in a forthcoming issue of the Potomac Review literary journal.  Three runner-up prizes of $200 each will also be awarded at the conference.  The entry fee is $25 per entry, and all stories must be unpublished and less than 3,000 words.  Only residents of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC are eligible.  Staff of The Potomac Review are not eligible to enter.
