The Shanghai Ballet was organized in 1979. It was the creation of the 20th-century classical Chinese ballet, The White-Haired Girl, which brought instant fame to the Shanghai Ballet and helped establish its prominent position in the international ballet world. Since the company’s founding, its young dancers have won a total of 32 medals in various international dance competitions and have achieved impressive results in nationwide competitions. The Shanghai Ballet has toured not only throughout China, but also in almost 100 cities all over the world, including venues in the US, Canada, France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Norway, and Finland. The company will perform the classic masterpiece, La Sylphide, which tells the story of a young man’s attraction to a forest fairy on the eve of his wedding. Is love or longing worthy of self-sacrifice?
