MC Alumni Association Committee Descriptions

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
A committee comprised of the officers of the Board of Governors, chairs of each of the three committees with ex-officio members representing the College. The committee will

  • approve annual objectives recommended by the Board’s committees,
  • develop long range objectives for the Alumni Association consistent with the goals and objectives of the College as adopted by the Board of Trustees,
  • recommends the annual alumni budget,
  • oversee the four major working committees: Special Events, Outreach, Ways and Means/Finance, and Miscellaneous/Ad Hoc.

SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
A committee charged to oversee the alumni’s involvement in special events including:

Student/Alumni Relations – This committee is charged with

  • strengthening the ties between current students and alumni working closely with the Student Activities directors on all three campuses,
  • participating in planning a variety of activities in cooperation with Student Activities, including spring/fall festivals, concerts, workshops/lectures, etc.,
  • supporting the Student Ambassador program and assisting with recruitment,
  • assisting with Parking Raffle strategies and sales,
  • outreach during student registration to gain visibility for the Alumni Association at the onset of students’ time at MC.

Student Alumni Relations (including recruiting and mentoring activities)

Travel – In response to alumni request for a travel program, this committee is charged with locations, dates of trip, and assist with planning and implementation.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE
This committee is charged with overseeing the alumni’s involvement in an annual community service project, college career fairs, student recruitment, continuing education programs for alumni association members, legislation affecting the college and community, and membership.

Community Service – This committee is charged with recommending one community service project and assist with its implementation (Hopefully this will be a Habitat for Humanity event.)

Career Contact – This committee is charged with

  • assisting MC students and alumni with their job placement needs,
  • serving on planning committee for the Association’s involvement in the Career Fair Days. Other activities may include participation in the career mentoring program, and serving as a resource to career counselors, creating a "job bank," or providing assistance to the College’s job placement office.

Continuing Education – This committee is charged with

  • ensuring the continued educational growth of our alums,
  • offering alumni the opportunity of college lectures provided by MC faculty and outside organizations,
  • identifying seminars/workshops to offer alumni and assist with implementation to seminars.

Legislation – This committee is charged with

  • informing the Board regarding legislation and legislative issues that affect Montgomery College at the local level and community college education at the state or national level,
  • assisting with lobbying efforts for legislation that supports the College’s Institutional Advancement Office. This committee will work closely with the College’s Government Relations Officer.

Student Recruitment – This committee is charged with

  • assisting the College in keeping in line with its mission to provide outreach services to potential students,
  • identifying volunteers to work at County Fair and other college outreach events.

Mentoring – This committee is charged with working with the College’s mentoring program. Project Success.

Membership – This committee is charged with

  • initiating ideas to increase Alumni Association Membership. This may include participation at commencements or other outreach functions, i.e., college fairs and college special events,
  • working with the College to implement new avenues to track students within the College’s capabilities and budget,
  • investigating the feasibility of a dues structure, and secure additional benefits for our alumni to encourage membership.

WAYS AND MEANS/FINANCE COMMITTEE
This committee is charged with overseeing fundraising by the Alumni Association, and its efforts with the MC Foundation including the Annual Fund. Committee is charged to develop, evaluate, and recommend fund-raising strategies to meet the needs of the Alumni Association, and assist the College financially. Ongoing projects include: Alumni fund, video, and diploma frame sales, and parking raffle.

MISCELLANEOUS/AD HOC COMMITTEE
This committee is charged to oversee the Alumni Association By-Laws, annual Alumni Board of Governors nomination process and formulation of ballot; nominating and awarding of awards and scholarships.

By Laws – This committee is charged with

  • maintaining the Association’s governing regulations with input from the Board of Governors to meet the needs of the Association and College,
  • By laws should be reviewed every three years.

Nominating – This committee is charged with

  • nominating candidates for election to the principal offices of the Board President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and members of the governing board,
  • developing and recommending guidelines for the nomination and election procedures to the full Board of Governors for approval.
  • recommending to the Board for its approval the Alumni Representative to serve on the Board of Trustees Nominating Committee (every two years—even years)

Awards and Scholarship –This committee is charged with making recommendations for Alumni Awards and scholarship recipients. This committee shall

  • develop criteria and recommend guidelines for nomination and election procedures
  • recommend the nature of the award,
  • recommend one or more recipients,
  • propose the occasion for presentation of the award,
  • requests for nominations will be made annually in the spring. The award shall be presented at an appropriate alumni event annually. All committee recommendations will be made to the Board of Governors for approval.

This committee is also charged to

  • develop criteria and selection for the Alumni Scholarship to present to the Board for final approval,
  • complete the scholarship agreement with the Foundation Office on an annual basis, help to promote availability of the scholarship.
