Sheldon Oremland, Class of 1949, was Montgomery Colleges first All-American in
any sport, in 1948. Captain of the football team, he was considered the best and toughest
tackle his teammates and the opposition had ever seen. He also played basketball and
baseball at MC. A tough pitcher, Mr. Oremland hurled a 5-1 season for the Colleges
team in 1948. His all-around talents brought him Athlete of the Year honors his sophomore
year.

Upon
graduation, Mr. Oremland attended Georgetown University on a football scholarship and was
contacted by the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Redskins. His football career ended
prematurely when he seriously injured his knee during a Georgetown game.
