Would you like to present a restaurant-quality cheese plate at your next dinner party? Come and learn the secrets of creating a balanced cheese course to enjoy at home in a special seminar presented by the Marriott Hospitality Center at Montgomery College, located on the Rockville Campus. You’ll be welcomed with a glass of wine, and then you’ll taste a seasonal array of fine American artisanal cheeses as the class discusses different types of cheese and how to create a visually-appealing presentation. The course will be hosted by Carole Palmer, president of Good Taste Marketing Services, a Bethesda-based marketing and public relations firm specializing in helping food-related clients develop their businesses. If you’ll be drinking wine, plan to bring ID with proof of age.
Pre-registration is required. Event date is Tuesday, March 30, from 7 -- 9 p.m. in the Faculty-Staff Dining Room in the Campus Center Building, Rockville Campus. Cost is $25 per person. Call early as class size is limited. Contact Julie Zagars at 240-567-7914 or Julie.zagars@montgomerycollege.edu for more information or to register for the course.

The Parilla Performing Arts Center will present Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci Opera Verdi Europa on Wednesday, March 10, at 8 p.m. Established in 1996 by Ivan Kyurkchiev, Opera Verdi’s performances, based on the great traditions of the art of opera in Bulgaria, are co-productions of the major opera houses of Bulgaria, theatres where many eminent singers started their world careers. The company collaborates not only with leading Bulgarian opera theatres and symphonies, but also with opera houses from Russia and Eastern Europe. Opera Verdi gained international stature by their participation in the thrilling “superproductions” of La Traviata at the München Olympiahalle, Carmen at Arnhem, Nabucco and Rigoletto in Rotterdam, and Aida at Arena auf Schalke in Gelsenkirchen. This season is the first tour of Opera Verdi Europa in the United States of America. Tickets are $34 Regular, $32 Seniors and Students. You can reach the PAC’s box office at 240-567-5301.

This year, rejection letters were sent out to over 700 Montgomery College Foundation scholarship applicants because the Foundation couldn’t afford to fund more than 300 requests. It is imperative that we increase the pool of scholarship dollars available to the hundreds of qualified students who are in desperate need of financial support.
Please do whatever you can to keep the dream of a college education alive for all who seek it.
