ALUMNI GIVING AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Grant a Wish at Montgomery College! If you haven't made a gift yet, here's a great way to do it. (If you have, our thanks to you!) The Office of Institutional Advancement has gone live with a new on-line giving page. Now, you or your friends can visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/giving and in a matter of minutes make a gift to Montgomery College.

You CAN make a difference in the lives of Montgomery College students.  We ask that you consider a gift to help further their education. Each year Montgomery College provides scholarships for over 600 students.  There remain, though, 3,000 students who could not enroll for financial reasons. Please help us bridge this gap and fulfill our student's dreams and goals with a gift to scholarships.

For more information, please contact Valessia Samaras, 240-567-7493, or e-mail valessia.samaras@montgomerycollege.edu or mail your payment to the Montgomery College Foundation, 900 Hungerford Drive, Suite 200, Rockville, MD 20850. Please write "e-news" on the memo line of your check.

Scholarship Spotlight:  Congratulations to Alexandra Clinton, recipient of the Sarah Silberman Ceramic Endowed Scholarship, and Sophia Angelakis, recipient of the Sarah Silberman Sculpture Endowed Scholarship! Sarah Silberman became an unofficial artist-in-residence and mentor to countless students when she began taking Montgomery College classes at the age of 71. For close to 25 years, she continued to travel back and forth to the College’s Rockville Campus, building upon an extraordinary artistic career that has spanned nearly a century.

While still a student at Montgomery College, Silberman funded two endowed scholarships in ceramics and sculpture. She chose to remain anonymous to the recipients, knowing that those students could be her classmates. When the gallery of the Paul Peck Art Building was dedicated in her honor, Silberman decided to remove the anonymity and allow the current and past recipients to learn the name of their benefactor. The two current recipients attended the Sarah Silverman Gallery dedication ceremony on February 19 to share how her scholarships have helped them further their arts education.

Other scholarship programs are available to MC students through the Montgomery College Foundation. Your contributions can help support these students as they work to complete their educational programs. Please consider making a contribution to the Montgomery College Foundation for student scholarships, 900 Hungerford Drive, Suite 200, Rockville MD 20850. For information, call Nell Kane, 240-567-7491, or e-mail nell.kane@montgomerycollege.edu.

If you are interested in volunteering your time to work with Montgomery College staff to recruit prospective students, contact the Alumni office, 240-567-5378, or e-mail alumni@montgomerycollege.edu

Mentoring Opportunities: Takoma Park/Silver Spring Student Development seeks both international and American alumni to participate as mentors in the International Buddy Program. The program provides a working relationship between current international students and past students who have either graduated or transferred from Montgomery College. Adjustment to a new community may be difficult, especially if there is a difference in language and culture. The International Buddy Program can help ease the transitional phase and help students adjust to the social, academic and cultural environment at Montgomery College. The primary mode of communication will be e-mail, unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties. All who are interested in serving as mentors must be alumni of Montgomery College. For more information or to volunteer, contact Dr. Harold Barber or Eniola Olowofoyeku at 240-567-1480, or e-mail harold.barber@montgomerycollege.edu or eniola.olowofoyeku.@montgomerycollege.edu. If you have a country or major of study mentor/mentee preference, please indicate that in your e‑mail.
