ALUMNI NOTICES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to the Montgomery College Class of 2007!  Six hundred and eighty-six graduates participated in the College’s Commencement ceremony May 18. New alumni (or their families) who want to have video copies of that special graduation moment may order a DVD or VHS video from the Alumni Association.  Videos are $35 each when ordered by June 8, $40 thereafter, plus $5 shipping. The Alumni Association also sells frames for Montgomery College diplomas in walnut, mahogany, and a gold-tone metal finish with embossed mattes in colors reflecting your campus. To protect the quality of these frames, we cannot ship them; they are available only at the Alumni Office. For pricing and other information, contact Bernice Grossman, 240-567-5378, or e-mail bernice.grossman@montgomerycollege.edu.

Still photographs of graduates were taken by Classic Photography, 410-203-1003.  The Alumni Association has no affiliation with Classic Photography.  Proofs of those photos are posted on the company’s Web site, www.classic-photo.com.  Also, if you had advance portraits taken at the Grad Finale in April, check the same Web site to see if your proofs are there.  About two weeks after Commencement, Classic Photography will send each graduate a proof copy of the photo(s) taken on stage during the ceremony. You can use that proof to order and purchase prints from them.

*************************

Montgomery College phone numbers changed May 21. Under the new system, everyone at the College is using the same area code and exchange: 240-567-xxxx. The last four digits remained the same for everyone. So if you have an old phone number for any College office, you’ll be able to reach them using the new area code and exchange with the old four-digit extension. For example, the Alumni Office’s old phone number, 301-279-5378, now is 240-567-5378. To learn more, visit www.mcinfonet.org/it/oneareacode.

*************************

The Alumni Directory is being updated.  The Alumni Office has retained Harris Connect to update the Montgomery College Alumni Directory, which will include all past students with 12 or more credits. Watch your mail for information on how you can ensure that your classmates, friends, and networking contacts can stay connected with you. Your cooperation is highly valued. You will be asked to make a phone call to update your data. Between April 23 and August 1, you will receive instructional post cards and/or emails approximately 4 or 5 times or until you respond—so please respond early and help us to create the best alumni directory ever! For information about the Alumni Association’s directory project, visit www.montgomerycollege.edu/alumni/directory.html.

ALUMNI GIVING AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

A gift to support scholarships can change a life and provide new possibilities to students. You can help the growing number of students who could not enroll due to a lack of financial aid and scholarships available. Last year, that figure reached over 3,000 students. Make a gift by June 30 to be included in this year's annual fund.

To make a donation to the 2006-2007 fund, please call LaVerne Gordon, associate development director, 240-567-4023, or mail your payment to the Montgomery College Foundation, 900 Hungerford Drive, Suite 200, Rockville, MD  20850. Please write "e-news" on the memo line of your check.

*************************

Scholarship Spotlight:  Congratulations to Aaron Pham, 2006 recipient of the Dr. Harold S. Glazier Memorial Endowed Scholarship!  The scholarship, established for Montgomery College students, honors the late Hal Glazier ’60, who served as Alumni Association president in 1993.

Other scholarship programs are available to MC students through the Montgomery College Foundation. Your contributions can help support these students as they work to complete their educational programs. Please consider making a contribution to the Montgomery College Foundation for student scholarships, 900 Hungerford Drive, Suite 200, Rockville MD 20850. For information, call Nell Kane, 240-567-7491, or e-mail nell.kane@montgomerycollege.edu.

Mentoring Opportunities: Takoma Park/Silver Spring Student Development seeks both international and American alumni to participate as mentors in the International Buddy Program. The program provides a working relationship between current international students and past students who have either graduated or transferred from Montgomery College. Adjustment to a new community may be difficult, especially if there is a difference in language and culture. The International Buddy Program can help ease the transitional phase and help students adjust to the social, academic and cultural environment at Montgomery College. The primary mode of communication will be e-mail, unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties. All who are interested in serving as mentors must be alumni of Montgomery College. For more information or to volunteer, contact Dr. Harold Barber or Eniola Olowofoyeku at 240-567-1480, or e-mail harold.barber@montgomerycollege.edu or eniola.olowofoyeku.@montgomerycollege.edu. If you have a country or major of study mentor/mentee preference, please indicate that in your e‑mail.
