WELCOME MESSAGE
Welcome to DS103 - Career Development: Dynamics and Application,
We will be using the course website on WebCT and the Internet to help you learn about your career related interests, skills, and values and where you might find satisfying opportunities in the world of work.
The career development process will help you learn about yourself, learn about the world of work, and learn where the two come together. You will develop preliminary educational and career decision making skills. You will then develop an action plan to achieve these goals.
During the course you will learn how to plan, establish, or change a career. Includes process of establishing or implementing career goals; assessment of values, interests, and skills plus their relationship to occupations; analysis of labor market needs; identification of employers and sources of occupation information; and means of securing employment (cover letters, resumes, and job references).
My primary reason for creating an online version of Career Development was to use the resources on the Internet to help students make career decisions. The Internet has an overwhelming amount of information - some good and some not so good. The Internet assignments are intended to highlight sites that I have found to be most useful.
