WELCOME MESSAGE
Welcome to ED120 - Child Growth and Development.
I am thrilled that you took the time to take a look to see what this course is about! I am looking forward to this semester and the time we'll spend together if you decide to register for the distant learning version of ED120. It is my goal for every student that takes my course, upon its completion, to be able to recognize the major principles of the developmental learning theories when observing and interacting with young children and be able to interpret the children's behavior in terms of what is developmentally appropriate. This course will take into consideration the professional and personal experiences of everyone taking the course in such a way that once the semester is over, you'll be able to look at children's typical everyday behaviors and see them in terms of theories and developmental areas of growth.
FACULTY INFORMATION
I am an adjunct professor with the Education Department and besides ED120, I also teach ED121 - Curricular Planning for Child Care Workers and ED123 - Infant Toddler Development. I have been working at Montgomery College since the spring of 2003, and I love being an instructor with the Education Department. I have my Master's of Science degree from George Washington University in Special Education with an emphasis on Infant and Toddler Development.

TEXTBOOK
Beginnings & Beyond: Foundations in Early Childhood Education by Ann Miles Gordon and Kathryn Williams Browne
Each week there will be a required reading from the textbook, an online lecture, 2 discussion questions, a quiz and a case study to be reviewed and analyzed. There will also be an additional study aid such as power point presentations, word games or activity available to reinforce the topic of the week. No grade is assigned for the additional study aids. They are available to help you gain a better understanding of the weekly lesson and can be used as a study guide for the weekly quizzes, the midterm and final exam.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
Ability to access the internet, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat documents and to create documents in either Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format.
ON-CAMPUS REQUIREMENTS
This course is taught entirely on-line. No face to face meetings will occur. Therefore, you have to be diligent and committed in order to put the time in to log onto the course site a minimum of 3 times weekly, keeping up with the announcements, discussions and coursework that normally would be done in the classroom. The three hours you'd spend in an on-campus class is typically the same amount of time you can expect to spend on a weekly basis for an on-line course. The difference is you can choose the hours and the days of the week that you will be "in class".
