It is an online course, but the experience is as rewarding and the discussions are as stimulating as they are in a face-to-face classroom. The advantages are that you can complete the readings and assignments from the comfort of your home and according to your own schedule.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION
A survey of British literature, including prose, poetry, and drama, from the mid-18th century to the present. Representative works of major authors are studied in their literary, historical, and sociopolitical contexts. The course introduces recurrent themes in the scope of British literature and culture. Students read, analyze, and respond critically to texts in class discussions, examinations, and essays. Students may enroll in EN 214 without having taken EN 213.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
A grade of C or better in EN 101 or EN 101A or consent of department. Three hours lecture/discussion each week.
TEXTBOOK
1. "The Norton Anthology of English Literature"-8th edition, Volumes D, E, F
2. Norton Critical Edition of "Pride and Prejudice" (the Rockville bookstore will have "Pride and Prejudice" in the anthology package)
3. Norton Critical Edition of "Great Expectations"
4. A grammar handbook: "The Little, Brown Compact Handbook" written by Jane E. Aaron or "Easy Writer" by Andrea Lunsford is a good one
ONLINE REQUIREMENTS
1. To pass this course, students are required to do the following:
- Log in to the course site regularly
- Participate enthusiastically in all classroom discussions
- Participate fully in all group activities and provide helpful feedback to classmates
- Submit all assignments on time
- Do revisions or corrections where appropriate
2.To pass this course, students are required to complete the following assignments:
- Discussion Board Posts 20%
- Essay # 1 20%
- Essay # 2 (documented) 20%
- Short Answer/Response Assignments 20%
- Class Participation(includes peer reviews), Midterm and Final Reflection 20%
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
You will need the following to participate online:
1. A computer with Internet access. Expect to spend several hours online each week.
2. Microsoft Word 97 or higher
3. A web browser such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.
ON-CAMPUS REQUIREMENTS
You will need to attend the orientation session for the course on January 26 from 6-7:00pm on Rockville campus in room HU325.
