Welcome to MS102 - Acoustical Physics and Instrumentation I,
I hope to work with you as we explore how an ultrasound system works through the study of acoustical physics. It is my belief that a proficient knowledge of ultrasound physics not only will allow you to become a fully registered sonographer upon graduation, but will improve your scanning and allow you to produce quality images. I look forward to seeing you all in my online class!
FACULTY INFORMATION
I have been a part-time faculty member for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography department since 2005, when I graduated from the program. After earning my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I decided to switch careers and become a sonographer. I am still a practicing sonographer and hold credentials in Abdominal and Ob/Gyn Sonography.
CATALOG DESCRIPTION
Fundamental principles of acoustical physics including soundwave propagation, ultrasound interaction in tissue, transducers, soundbeams, and pulsed echo imaging will be presented.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
Mathematics foundation and PH 010 or higher and admission to the DMS program or permission of the department.

ONLINE REQUIREMENTS
This online course consists of 15 learning modules that correspond to the semester weeks. Each module requires students to participate in weekly online lectures, discussions, assignments, and quizzes.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
You will need the following to participate online:
Expect to spend at least six hours online each week. Ideally, you should expect to login at least four times a week, even if some logins only involve checking for announcements, mail, or new postings.

ON-CAMPUS REQUIREMENTS
The midterm and final exams are held on-campus. Labs meet several times during the semester and are held on-campus in HSC 426.
