Distance Learning orientations are designed to help students new to online learning to better prepare themselves for success at Montgomery College. Except where noted below, all orientations are OPTIONAL!
We highly recommend all new students choose and attend one of the orientation options below.
Some of the courses you have registered for (i.e., Eng 101 or Eng 102) have their own orientations, and we would recommend that you sign up for those instead of the DL orientations listed below. In addition, also check your course's information through the Print or Online Schedule page, or MyMC, for more information on how to attend your course's orientation if applicable.
OPTION 1: A face-to-face orientation to distance learning.
Six separate sessions are scheduled every semester (Spring, Summer, and Fall). You are invited to attend one of the sessions. Topics covered will be how to get started in distance learning, what you need to know, navigating WebCT (the course management program on which most online courses are delivered at MC), important resources, online library skills, and practice on the computer. There will be time for questions and answers.
Students must register in order to attend the orientations. Registration for Fall 2009 Face-To-Face Orientations have closed. Please come back for Spring 2009 orientation dates when they become available.
OPTION 2: Distance Learning Drop-In Session.
Come to one of the campus locations to get answers to questions about distance learning, how to find your online course, etc. A list of drop-in dates will be posted every semester once they become available.
No registration is required, just come with questions you want to ask our DL staff member.
These drop-in sessions are consultations - they are not full orientations to distance learning.
Dates for Spring 2009, DL drop-in orientations will be posted once they become available.
