HTML Creator button in Firefox for Mac users. |
FYI, Emily Rosado discovered that on a Mac using FireFox, the HTML Creator button was not visible anywhere in a course site.
When she switched to using Safari she was able to see and use the built-in HTML Creator.

Student not on Banner Roster, but still in WebCT course |
Sometimes it takes a while for Banner to drop students from WebCT. They should eventually be dropped from your course via communication between WebCT and the student information system. It may be that a disruption in that communication resulted in these students remaining on your WebCT course roster (while not on your Banner roster).
Faculty do not have access to unenroll students from a WebCT course. That setting is not enabled at the system level. If a student who is not on your Banner roster remains on your WebCT course roster you can do a few things.
1) From the Gradebook, make sure the students are denied access to the course by checking the box next to their names and then clicking the "Deny Access" button
2) From the Gradebook, click the "Gradebook Options" button and then select "Hide Enrolled Member Data"
These two steps will make sure the students aren't in the course and are removed from view in the Gradebook. |

I know my username and password is correct, I am going to distance.montgomerycollege.edu to login. When I enter the username and password that I know is correct, I still cannot login. |
We have found that this happens sometimes when you use a browser bookmark to go to distance.montgomerycollege.edu. If you are using a bookmark, try clearing the URL in your browser’s URL address field, manually type in distance.montgomerycollege.edu and press enter or click go. |

I am trying to upload files in to the File manager in WebCT and my system keeps freezing. |
Some faculty have had problems with their systems "freezing" when they tried to upload multiple files. Try changing your system settings from a Windows XP theme to a Windows Classic theme. 1) Right click on the desktop and select “Properties 2) On the “Themes” tab or “Display Properties” select the “Theme” dropdown box and select “Windows Classic.” 3) Once this “Theme” is selected the preview will display the changes. Clicking “OK” will change the view from XP to “Classic.” |

I know that a particular student submitted their assignment but I cannot see it in the assignment dropbox.
There is a significant problem with the WebCT Assignment Tool which prevents faculty from viewing/grading student assignments. This problem has been reported to our WebCT Helpdesk and has been escalated to emergency status with the Blackboard company technical support staff.
If you experience a problem with the Assignment Tool, please call the WebCT Helpdesk at 888.691.5059. It's important that they be aware of how many people have the same issue. |
In the interim, some faculty who have this problem on their course sites have created alternative submission systems for their students. Generally, faculty are asking students to attach their assignments to an email. The grades can then be manually entered in the Gradebook.
We have also found that the gradebook is accurate when the assignment tool does not reveal submitted assignments. Try looking at that. |

I have a file in a learning module. I can see the file when I’m on the Build tab and I’m sure I added it to the learning module, but I cannot see it in student view and my students are reporting that they cannot see it. |
Check to see if you have a # or other special character in the filename or Learning module item title. We have found that removing special characters from the filename or the Learning module item title allows the students to see the file.
In general it is a good idea not to put spaces or special characters in filenames (except for underscore _) |

Zipping Files
For the first assignment students were to submit a Word 2007 file. For some reason WebCT automatically zipped the files of about 6 students.
How can this be corrected? |
I've done a little investigating on this one and here's the easiest solution.
1. select the student's file
2. when prompted to open or save, select SAVE
3. in the dialog box, change the file extension from .zip to .docx
4. change the Save as Type selection to All Files
4. open in Word

The Calendar Settings default to allowing students to post public entries to the course calendar. This is a problem for obvious reasons.
I have changed the setting in the WebCT Standard so that students can no longer create public calendar entries by default. However, when I created a new section based upon the WebCT Standard the calendar setting does not carry over. The newly created site has a default calendar setting that allows students to create calendar entries that are public and visible to all in the course. |
Change this setting in own course sites.
1. In Build or Teach, enter the Calendar area
2. Click the Calendar Settings button at the top of the screen.
3. On the Calendar Settings screen un-check the option Allow Student public entries.
4. Click Save.
This setting must be changed in each course site. Otherwise calendar entries created by students will be visible to all members of the class. |
