All are critical factors for student success. The goal is to help students understand the demands of online learning and become aware of areas that might make online courses challenging. The intent is to increase awareness and encourage remediation either prior to or early in the semester before students get in academic difficulty in online courses. The Office of Distance Learning will provide links to on campus and online resources for remediation in each of the areas.
READI will be available to students from the Distance Learning website and from the Campus Bookmarks section of the My WebCT page.
How will READI be used?
- Self assessments - available to students from the DL website and MyWebCT.
Referrals by others
- Referrals from ODL
- Referrals from counselors
- Referrals from faculty
- Referrals from any employee who meets a student that wants to know more about the demands of online learning
- During on campus orientations provided by ODL, disciplines, or individual teachers
When will students take READI?
- Throughout the year, but prior to online course registration to help students decide if online learning is “right” for them.
- After registering for online courses until the first day of the semester to prepare for online learning.
- During the first week of the semester. Faculty may choose to make READI a required or optional part of the orientation to their online courses to help students understand the demands of online learning.
READI provides students the option of emailing results to themselves and to others. Students should only have to take the assessment once. They can email results to more than one instructor if it is required in more than one course.
Faculty and staff who want to try the assessment, go to http://montgomerycollege.readi.info/
Username and password is mcstaff. I would suggest a fictitious name, but a real email address so you get your results.
