Key Points to
Make When Contacting an Elected Official
In any
contact with a legislator, you must be sure to tell your own “story”
about MC and ask them to protect access to MC.
You may want to
consult “Tips for Writing Letters”
or “Tips for Phone Calls.”
Below are some
key points you can use to draft a letter, email or place a call to
your elected official. If needed, you can consult the “Budget
Background” or the “Fact Sheet” for additional information. Keep in
mind, a brief personal email or letter is best. In fact, a few
paragraphs will do the job!
Writing
a letter is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
Step
One: Tell your personal story!
Faculty/Staff:
- Explain
why you work at MC.
- Tell them
about your students.
- Explain
how you “change” lives everyday.
Students:
- Explain
why you attend MC.
-
Affordable tuition
- Small
classes
- Close
to home
- Access
to professors
Alumni:
- Explain
why you went to MC.
-
Explain how MC made a difference in your life.
Step
Two: The rest of the message: Protect funding for MC!
Both capital
and operating funds are needed to protect MC’s mission of open
access. Please provide our funding to assure MC remains affordable
and accessible to all who live in our community.
- Funds are
needed to serve our growing enrollment.
- Funds are
needed to construct new classrooms and labs.
- Funds are
needed to modernize existing facilities.
- Students
already pay their fair share of the costs of the College.
- Salaries
must remain competitive to provide a quality education.
Step
Three: Say thank you!
Always close
your correspondence with a thank you. We are in business of building
long term relationships.
ALWAYS
INCLUDE YOUR HOME ADDRESS! |
