Planning at Montgomery College

The strategic planning process at Montgomery College incorporates the Learning College concept and a strong focus on outcomes assessment.  The process involves defining unit mission, core activities, and goals and objectives consistent with the College Mission Statement and College Goals and Objectives.  The Academic Master Plan, Facilities Master Plan, Information Technology Strategic Plan, and Distance Learning Strategic Plan serve as guiding documents as well.  The strategic planning process provides a framework for further planning and analysis activities such as self-study for re-accreditation.

Key Changes for FY10_Planning

·  Plan Submission - Each campus/unit will submit one, single unified plan for the entire campus/unit. 

·  Common Collegewide Strategies - Each campus/unit plan must fit under one of the three Collegewide Strategies.

·  Common Academic/Administrative Strategic Actions and Action Items - Each campus plan must address all three agreed upon Strategic Actions and Action Items; all administrative unit plans must address both of the agreed upon Strategic Actions and Action Items.

·  Outcomes Assessment - Each campus/unit will report the results of their approved FY08 Strategic Planning Outcomes.

·  FY09 Update - Each campus/unit will be given the opportunity to revisit their FY09 plans and delete objectives, strategies, and outcomes that were not funded or that are no longer feasible.  In addition, each campus/unit will be able to revise any of the assessment measures for their approved and funded objectives to aid them in reporting their FY09 Outcomes.

·  Online Plan Submission – The Office of Policy, Planning and Research and the Office of Information Technology has developed a Collegewide Strategic Planning Database that will make the development and submission of the FY10 plans much easier and less time-consuming.  This database will also allow users to enter FY08 Outcomes as well as modify FY09 strategic plans.
