Citizenship classes are offered for all legal permanent residents
preparing for naturalization. Improve your English for Citizenship tests, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Take classes, tutoring, and practice interviews.
This class offers beginning and advanced English, and
United States history and government. It provides personalized preparation
for the Citizenship Test. Many students who completed this course have passed
the naturalization exam and have become American Citizens. Classes are held at the Montgomery College Refugee Center in Silver Spring and the Upcounty Regional Services Center in Germantown. Learn more about the Citizenship Preparation Program.
Open to all legal permanent residents of Montgomery County and Price Georges County who have been in the U.S. for at least three years. Bring Legal Permanent Resident Card (Green Card).

General Information
The Montgomery County Refugee Center offers free classes
to refugees and asylees, as well as to legal permanent residents who are preparing
for citizenship. The center receives Federal and State funding through the Maryland
Office for New Americans (MONA).
School hours:Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 2:00pm, with morning, afternoon, and evening and weekend classes available.
Directions to the Refugee Center . The Refugee Center is located in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, a few steps from Colesville Road, across from City Place Mall. The Center is located at Montgomery College's facility at 8561 Fenton Street, Second Floor, Suite 210, in Takoma Park/Silver Spring, 3/4 mile north of the campus (map).
