
The Montgomery County Refugee Center provides the refugee
community with a free quality education.
Classes for refugees and asylees include:
Intensive English Language, Certified Nursing Assistant, Computer and Receptionist Training, Hotel and Food Service Training, Accent Reduction and more.
ENGLISH FOR THE AMERICAN WORKPLACE
English classes are offered from pre-literacy to advanced levels. A unique job class provides On-the-job training. Skills classes include computers, health care, retail, automotive and service industries.
Class time is 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
This program is open to refugees and political
asylees only. Students must bring proof of refugee or asylee status and your
tuberculosis test.
CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT CLASS
This CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program consists
of 90 hours of classroom time and 40 hours of supervised work in a
Nursing Home. It generally lasts three to four months and prepares
students to pass the Maryland Board of Nursing GNA examination.
This program is open to refugees and political asylees who pass an entrance exam. Students must bring proof of refugee or asylee status and a tuberculosis test.
School hours:Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 2:00pm, with morning, afternoon, and evening and weekend classes available.
Directions to the School. The Refugee Center is located in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, a few steps from Colesville Road, across from City Place Mall. The Center is located at Montgomery College's facility at 8561 Fenton Street, Second Floor, Suite 210, in Takoma Park/Silver Spring, 3/4 mile north of the campus (map).
