Ways to Find Things on this Website...

Search...   Search words and phrases may be entered directly in the top right section of the banner on most menu pages, as above.  The pulldown box on the left permits searching several different areas of online information.  The initial setting will search all pages of the public website for any phrase typed into the right-hand box.  The pulldown also permits searching our phone and website directories for specific people ("White pages") or offices ("Yellow pages").   The fourth pulldown selection provides search of our formal catalog course descriptions for any appearance of a particular term -- for example, to find all courses in calculus or Photoshop, or to find any course that mentions the Baroque.  To search for a specific phrase, for example "Art History", enclose it in quotes.   Entering that same expression without the quotes will find any page on which both words appear in any order.   For more extensive help and advanced search features, see http://www.montgomerycollege.org/search.html

A-Z Index...   The A-Z Index button on main menu bars (as at top of this page) leads to an Alphabetized list of many frequently visited pages on the site.

Main Navigation...   The menu options originating on the home page are grouped in several different ways, in hopes of increasing opportunities for people to locate whatever information they might need even if they don't know exactly what it might be called (and hence would have difficulty using Search or Index features).  Thus the menu for "Future Students" includes descriptive text of the sort you're reading right now, to assist new visitors in finding the questions that they might need to ask.   "Current Students" on the other hand, is a menu for veteran visitors who know what they're looking for and want a way to get there with the least mouse clicks.  These pages are also intended to encourage browsing through the site -- window shopping, so to speak -- to encounter interesting opportunities even when not seeking anything in particular.

Types of Information Available...

Centrally maintained information about our instructional programs, non-instructional services to students (counseling, financial aid, placement testing, child care, etc), our many other roles in the community (arts programs, partnerships with other institutions, etc), and how to join our MC family.

Department pages from offices that directly provide instruction in particular fields of study (English, Math, Art, Computer Science...) or that support other student services not directly related to instruction (Counseling, Campus Administration, Special Events,...)   These Department links are where you will find information about faculty & staff, programs, and events at a particular campus.  Main entry points on the Departments menu, or from A-Z Index.

Department pages for offices that support services not directly related to any particular campus.   Bookstores, Libraries, and Distance Learning are examples of student-interest sites in this category.   There are also pages of primary interest to people seeking to do business with the College -- Employment & Procurement being among the most prominent.  All of these frequently visited sites have links directly on the home page and on many interior menus.   Other entry points are on the Departments menu and A-Z Index.

MC's several websites...

"The Public Site".   This is the site you're viewing right now -- www.montgomerycollege.edu.    This site is open for viewing by anyone with access to a browser, and is the primary source of MC Information for visitors who do not have any formal connection with the College.

"My MC" -- "The Secure Site".   This is a password-only site for people who are already members of the MC community.   Reached by clicking the "MyMC" button that appears on every menu page at the front of the public site.   This is the site that hosts online registration for classes at the beginning of each semester, and it is where students have access to personal information such as grades, financial aid status, etc.    MyMC is a "portal" site, which means that its home page contains links to information specifically selected for each individual visitor -- such as links to all courses in which you are currently enrolled.

The "WebCT" Site.    This is the site that hosts many of our Distance Learning courses, and is accessible only for students actually enrolled in such courses.

Admissions & Registration
General information -- policies and procedures, placement testing, financial aid, etc. is linked from the Admissions menu.  See also separate pages for additional information about Distance Learning and Continuing Education programs.  Online registration (when open) is managed through the Montgomery College My MC secure site, which requires an ID and password for access.
Schedule Information, Calendars, and Operating Hours
Schedules for on-campus credit courses, by Day and Time offered, are found on the Class Schedules menu.
For distance learning classes, also check the Distance Learning pages
For non-credit offerings check the Continuing Education and Workforce Development site.

Other important dates, such as semester start and stop, tuition payment dates, holidays, etc. are on the Academic Calendar

Final exam schedule is available separately for easy printing.

General-interest events -- Performances, Speakers, Sports, etc. -- are listed on the Events Calendar.  These items may also be featured on the lower portion of the home page and/or on the News listings.
Courses & Curricula (Programs of Study -- "Majors")
Descriptions of individual course content, and of programs of study (curricula) leading to various degrees and certificates, are accessed from the Catalog menu.

A wealth of more general information about learning opportunities at Montgomery College is available on the many Academic Department pages on the site.  An important path to browse for this type of information is to start on the Courses/Programs menu.  Many of these same connections are also available on the Current Students menu.  To quickly seek a link to a specific Department page, try the Departments menu.
Secure Site -- "My MC"
Login to My MC for access to Student Grades and Financial Records.  Available only to students who have already been admitted to the College.  Requires a Password.  Access to My MC appears as a button on the home page and on many other menus.
