Founding and History
A Long Tradition of Student Success

Founded in 1946, Montgomery College began as an evening college at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, with eight faculty members serving an initial student body of just 186 students.

Since then, as the College's programs have expanded and adapted to serve the needs of county residents, more than half a million students have attended Montgomery College.
