Special Transfer Information

  • Degree-Seeking Students Transferring Credits To Montgomery College
Students who have earned college credit for courses at other institutions and who intend to earn a certificate or degree at Montgomery College may receive transfer credit. Transcripts may be mailed from the sending institutions to any of the campus Admissions, Records, and Registration offices. If a transcript is hand-carried, it should be in a sealed envelope. Transcripts are evaluated only for degree-seeking students at MC. Hand carried unofficial transcripts or grade reports may be used by advisors for advising purposes.
  • Students From Other Colleges Transferring Credits From Montgomery College
    1. Submit an application if you have not previously applied to Montgomery College. There is a one-time application fee of $25.
    2. Submit documentation from your home institution showing that you have fulfilled the prerequisites(s) indicated in the current Montgomery College Catalog for the course(s) you wish to take. As proof of fulfillment, students may submit a “Permission to Enroll” form from their institution. The form must specify the course(s) the student may take at Montgomery College; this will enable the College to waive the requirements for prerequisite checks and/or assessment tests. The “Permission to Enroll” form will also assure that the course listed will be transferable back to the home institution.
    3. Documentation from the home institution may be faxed to the Records and Registration Office on the campus you plan to attend: (240) 567-7815, Germantown; (240) 567-5037, Rockville; (240) 567-1497, Takoma Park/Silver Spring. You may also mail documentation to Montgomery College, Office of Admissions, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, MD 20876.
    4. Once the College has received your prerequisite documentation, register for your course(s).
    5. After completing your course(s) request a Montgomery College official transcript to be sent to your home institution.

Articulation (Transfer) Agreements

To assist students in smooth transfer, Montgomery College and many colleges and universities have developed articulation agreements. These agreements detail curricula and policies that permit students to undertake associate's degrees at Montgomery College and complete bachelor's degrees at a four-year institution without loss of credit. Schools with which Montgomery College maintains articulation agreements include the University of Maryland System, Howard University, Trinity College, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Studies, Catholic University Metropolitan College, Rensselaer Plytechnic Institute, Middlebury College, and Hood College. Recently, Montgomery College and Hood College signed a unique agreement that will allow students to complete an associate's degree at Montgomery College and bachelor's and master's degree at Hood in five years of full-time study. Some Montgomery College students may be eligible to enroll for one course free of charge at Hood College.

If you have questions about these agreements, please call the Records and Registration Office at (240) 567-5034 or Career/Transfer centers at Germantown (301) 353-7772; Rockville (240) 567-5062; and Takoma Park/Silver Spring, (301) 650-1479.
