Counseling and Advising
Special honors counselors work with each class of Scholars to
provide academic advising, personal counseling, and transfer advising.
Our Scholars Program provides several special services to its
participants.
Advising Sessions
As an incoming freshman, you will be invited to special academic
orientation sessions in early June. You will plan your fall course
schedule and register for classes at these sessions. Honors counselors
provide individual counseling. Our staff members will provide
you and your parents with information concerning honors core course
work, transfer, financial aid, and the Cambridge experience.
Individual Counseling
Our counselors keep in contact with Scholars through appointments,
telephone calls and email. You can meet individually with an honors
counselor to discuss transfer, plan your class schedule, or talk
about personal issues.
Student Development Courses
You can enroll in special sections of student development courses
to explore issues concerning time management, career development,
and college survival skills.
Transfer and Scholarship Workshops
The College holds workshops to provide information about the transfer
process to four-year colleges and universities. Honors counselors
assist Scholars in applying for admission and obtaining information
about transfer credits. Honors counselors will assist you in creating
a scholarship portfolio, which highlights your academic accomplishments.
National Honor Society
Phi Theta Kappa is the national honors society for students at
two-year colleges. You must have a cumulative grade point average
f at least a 3.5 for at least 15 hours of course work at Montgomery
College and be enrolled in a degree program or transfer curriculum.
An induction ceremony is held each semester for new members of
the honors society.
Transfer and Articulation Agreements
Montgomery College has strong transfer relationships and articulation
agreements with both public and private four-year schools in our
metropolitan area—and an excellent record for transferring
students to the finest colleges and universities in the nation.

Graduate School Studies
Many Scholars aspire to pursue graduate and professional school
studies after transferring and obtaining their baccalaureate degrees.
The Scholars program can prepare you well for the rigorous studies
associated with achieving an advanced degree. Several Scholars

of career fields, for example: publicity director for a radio
station, computer engineer or systems analyst at a technology
company, accountant for a top firm, teacher at a middle school,
research assistant at a government agency, or buyer for a retail
company.
