| During the four weeks spent
in England, the Scholars have many opportunities to explore the
town of Cambridge, famous for its bookstores, museums, cafes,
and pubs. Several Scholars try "punting" on the river Cam, which
is a Cambridge student tradition. A punt is a flat-bottomed boat
propelled with a long pole. The Scholars also attend several plays
and classical music concerts.
In addition, the Scholars have the opportunity
to go on frequent sightseeing trips to London
(only an hour away by train), including visits to the Tower of
London, Buckingham Palace, and Portobello Market. Besides London,
the Scholars have the chance to visit several historic sites,
such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Canterbury, Ely Cathedral, the Imperial
War Museum at Duxford, and Winston Churchill's home.
Each year, Scholars take special excursions to
areas outside England, including exciting visits to such places
as Paris, Rome, Florence, Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Dublin. As
one Scholar remarked: "I feel that I received so much
more than just academics, but a cultural experience as well."
