Montgomery College Welcomes New Associate Vice President for Advancement and Community Engagement

Mary DeLuca, former CCBC marketing/communications chief, will begin her new role at Montgomery College on May 13

Montgomery College (MC) has announced that veteran communicator Mary DeLuca will be its next associate senior vice president (ASVP) for marketing and communications in the College’s Advancement and Community Engagement Division, effective May 13, 2024. The ASVP is the senior most leader of the marketing and communications department, and a key member of the Advancement and Community Engagement Division’s leadership team.

Passionate about connecting people to the life-changing opportunities community colleges provide, DeLuca has dedicated her professional career to advancing the transformational mission of community colleges for three decades with the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). Most recently, she was employed with Interact Communications, a Wisconsin-based enrollment marketing agency serving more than 750 of the nation’s community and technical colleges.

“I am incredibly excited to take on this role of leading Marketing and Communications for Montgomery College, which is not only ranked as a national higher education leader but is loved and celebrated by the diverse students and communities it serves,” DeLuca said. “I can’t wait to showcase the amazing work happening at Montgomery College to the world. I look forward to collaborating with MC’s talented, student-centered team to share MC’s stories of transformation and inspire positive change for Montgomery County, Maryland, and beyond.”

At the College, DeLuca will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of a department that includes: marketing, communications, public relations, media relations, creative services, website development, copywriting and editing, social and digital media, and the MCTV station. She will work closely with the senior vice president for Advancement and Community Engagement to increase brand recognition of the College, implement the College’s strategic marketing plan, and oversee internal and external communications strategies and activities.

Since 2020, DeLuca has served as a vice president and lead strategist for Interact, where she has managed Interact’s client and account services, while providing strategic counsel to guide enrollment growth and brand positioning for partner colleges, coast to coast.

Prior to joining Interact, DeLuca served as CCBC’s senior director for college communications, managing the multi-campus college’s marketing, web, media relations, and creative services departments. During her tenure at CCBC, Ms. DeLuca led the college through its transition from three former colleges into one, and produced integrated and strategic communications that built CCBC’s student enrollment and community support.

DeLuca was recognized by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, as NCMPR’s District Communicator of the Year (2003). She served on the NCMPR national board as the District 1 Director for the northeast region from 2013 to 2016 and helped CCBC garner more than 100 national and district awards for excellence in marketing and public relations.

DeLuca has a Master of Arts degree in Publications Design from the University of Baltimore, where she earned the Ampersand Award for exceptional writing and design. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism from James Madison University in Virginia. She is a past president of the Maryland Council for Community College Public Relations Officers and the Baltimore Public Relations Council, and a graduate of Leadership Baltimore County.
