Capital Planning, Design, and Engineering

Student Affairs building under construction.

Our office supports the College by providing comprehensive design and landscape standards to consultants, a facilities master plan to guide future construction, and capital budget requests to support capital projects. Building information is also important and included below.

Design Standards

The College Design Standards (CDS) (PDF, Get Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader - Link opens in new window) document has been developed by the MC Office of Facilities for use by the College and its consultants for new construction and renovation projects for the College. It presents MC's preferred standards for planning and design, and preferred building components and systems. Design consultants to the College should make themselves familiar with these standards. Users of this document are responsible for their use of the information, and all designs are required to comply with applicable local, state and federal codes and regulations.

These Standards are part of the requirements to be used by A/E, landscape architects and MC expert staff as they prepare Landscape Plans (LsP) for MC.

Facilities Master Plan

In order to address new opportunities and challenges, the College undertook a comprehensive update of its collegewide Facilities Master Plan to support its increasing enrollment, define space needs, and justify major new facilities initiatives anticipated as a result of this effort. Cho Benn Holback + Associates was commissioned in 2015 to prepare this collegewide plan. It covers the ten year period from 2013 to 2023 and responds to the enrollment growth expected at the College and the capital projects needed to accommodate this growth.

Capital Budget

The capital budget is submitted yearly as part of a biennial capital budget, and also as part of a six-year capital improvements program. See our Capital Budgets for the yearly requests.

Building Information

This office is also responsible for space management. The College currently owns and manages 50 buildings and leases space at three additional off-campus sites for an approximate total of 2.9 million gross square feet (GSF). The Office compiles an annual summary of MC buildings, acreage, gross and net assignable square feet, and parking spaces. Below are links to the document based on campus, total college, and off campus properties.
