Award Conditions for 2007-2008

Montgomery College awards eligible students who are registered for courses from a variety of financial aid programs from federal, state and institutional sources. There are certain conditions which you must meet in order for you to receive aid during the school year. Please read or print a copy of the conditions for your reference. It is your responsibility to be aware of these award conditions. Please speak to a financial aid representative if you need clarification.

Satisfactory Academic Progress 2007-2008

When you are a Montgomery College student and you apply for or receive financial aid, you are required to make satisfactory progress towards attaining a degree or certificate.  This policy is a requirement of the college as well as the federal and the state governments.  The four standards of satisfactory academic progress are described in this document. You are responsible for knowing the information. Please keep this in mind as you register for your college courses. Please speak to a financial aid representative if you need clarification.


Regarding Academic Performance letters mailed in January 2008
to students enrolled in the college during summer and Fall 2007.

Make satisfactory progress each semester you attend college.
A. Termination Letter for Satisfactory Academic Progress standards for 2007-2008: If you received a letter indicating you are no longer eligible for financial aid because of your academic performance, then you are not eligible to receive aid for the spring 2008 or the next period of your enrollment at MC. You may appeal your suspension if you have information that may affect your case within 30 days of notification of termination. See a Financial Aid Counselor if you wish to discuss your circumstances.

B. Termination for Maximum Timeframe. If you received a letter indicating you are no longer eligible for financial aid because you have attempted 150% or more of the published credits required for your Associate or Certificate degree program, then you are not eligible to receive aid for the spring 2008 or the next period of your enrollment at MC. If there are circumstances that affect your academic progress, you may have the right to appeal your termination. Appeals and all supporting documentation should be submitted to the Financial Aid Appeals Committee no later than 30 days after the beginning of the semester for which you are requesting this appeal. Appeals received after 30 days may not be processed.

1. Print the Checklist For Preparing An Appeal Of Financial Aid Suspension Due To Maximum Timeframe.

2. Attach the Checklist (which you download) along with your supporting documents and bring or mail your appeal of Financial Aid Termination due to Maximum Timeframe to the Financial Aid Office. If you cannot download the Checklist, you may visit a Financial Aid Office to obtain a copy of the Maximum Timeframe Checklist.

Appeals and all supporting documentation must be submitted to the Financial Aid Appeals Committee no later than 30 days after the beginning of the semester for which you are requesting the appeal. Appeals received after 30 days may not be processed. Incomplete appeal documentation will not be accepted.
