Mr. Kevin J. Sexton is president and CEO of Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, Maryland, and president and CEO of the Maryland Region of Trinity Health. Since Mr. Sexton joined Holy Cross Health in 1998, Holy Cross Hospital has grown exponentially, shown strong financial performance, and strengthened its quality and efficiency. The Maryland Work Life Alliance has designated Holy Cross Hospital a Best Place to Work every year since 1999. It also earned Top Performer on Key Quality Measures from The Joint Commission, the only hospital in Maryland to receive that designation for four consecutive years from 2010 to 2013.

In 2012, Mr. Sexton reorganized Holy Cross Health in anticipation of two major changes: the 2014 opening of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, the first new hospital in Montgomery County in 35 years, and national- and state-level health reforms. The reorganization included creating Holy Cross Health Network, which now manages four community health centers and other primary care practices, community health initiatives, and physician and insurance relationships.

In October 2015, Holy Cross Hospital celebrated the significant expansion of its South Building, which converted the entire hospital to an all-private-room facility. At the same time, the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors named the Kevin J. Sexton Campus of Holy Cross Health in recognition of his accomplishments and service to the community.

Mr. Sexton’s honors include the Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame and as Montgomery County’s Catholic Business Person of the Year. The Daily Record named him one of 50 Influential Marylanders and Washington Business Journal selected him as one of the Most Admired CEOs in health care. He served on Maryland’s Health Services Cost Review Commission for eight years and was vice chair for six of those years. He was appointed by the governor as co-chair of the state’s Hospital Executives Input Group on the changes in Maryland’s hospital reimbursement system.

Previously, Mr. Sexton served as senior vice president and director of the healthcare organizations practice of The Lewin Group. Earlier in his career, he was president of MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and worked in the Federal Health Care Financing Administration, including service as director of its Office of Management and Budget. He was a charter member of the federal government’s Senior Executive Service.

Mr. Sexton has a BSBA from Georgetown University and an MPA from Harvard University.
