Ms. Wendy Thompson, a Montgomery College alumna, is the general manager of Channel 64, WZDC, the Washington, D.C., affiliate of the Telemundo Spanish-language television network.

Born and raised in Peru, Ms. Thompson immigrated to the United States when she was 21 years old. She began her academic career at Montgomery College taking noncredit writing classes in English. She worked as a nanny for two families in Takoma Park, Maryland, while she pursued her education at the College.

After completing her studies at Montgomery College, Ms. Thompson went on to the University of Maryland, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in international business in 1995.

After graduating from University of Maryland, she immediately began working at Telemundo. In less than two years, Ms. Thompson earned the position of general manager of the station. In her position, Ms. Thompson works closely with the local Hispanic community to ensure that her television station meets the needs of this burgeoning population while maintaining the high level of quality and service on which it prides itself.

Ms. Thompson’s hard work and commitment to the Hispanic community has set her apart from her colleagues in the media industry. She has appeared in numerous local newspapers and trade publications, most notably in the Washington Business Journal, and has made several appearances on local television and radio stations. In 1999 the Hispanic Democratic Club of Montgomery County honored Ms. Thompson with its Poder con Ganas Award for Business Excellence.

She serves in leadership positions in business and community organizations including as a board member of the National Center for Community and Justice, the Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. She is a graduate of Leadership Montgomery’s Class of 2000 and Leadership Washington’s Class of 2001.
